We're off and learning!
Tuesday marked the 10th day of school, and what a busy 10 days they have been! Each day students are introduced to new routines, which are helping to make our classroom run calmly and smoothly. We're learning how to take care of ourselves, each other, and our classroom.
Names, Names, Names!
This week we kicked off our first unit all about our names. We're learning that our names are actually words! Words are created when letters come to together in a particular order. We're quickly making the connection that our names have a certain amount of letters, they always start and end the same way, we write them from left to right, and only when these letters are written in the correct order can our names be spelled and read. So far, the most exciting part of this learning has been realizing that we're already READERS because we can read and recognize our own names! During our literacy center block we are working with a variety of different materials including: stamps, letters stickers, name puzzles, and play dough to build our names. At the end of our unit each student will create a name poster which will proudly hang in our classroom.
